What started as a small gathering of likeminded people, has grown to be one of the largest Goth festivals in the country. Thousands of people descend on Whitby twice a year to be part of the Goth weekend. In years gone by the attendees were exclusively Goths but as the popularity of the event grew, thousands of visitors came just to see the spectacle. Now the onlookers vastly outnumber the Goth attendees.
Now the Goth weekends are some of the busiest days in Whitby and the festivals have become intrinsically linked to the identity of the town.
